Another quiet day with the only birds of note being the two Spoonbills seen near Samson in the morning; one of which was later on St Martin’s and two Rooks on the Golf Course on St Mary’s.
Latest bird sightings from the Islands
Another quiet day with the only birds of note being the two Spoonbills seen near Samson in the morning; one of which was later on St Martin’s and two Rooks on the Golf Course on St Mary’s.
St Mary’s – Little Egrets were seen at Porth Hellick and Porth Loo and the Greenshank was again on the Lower Moors Pool. A few Swallows and Wheatears were seen but there was little other migration of note other than a reported Garden Warbler at Kitty Down.
St Mary’s – On a very windy day four Whimbrel were seen on Peninnis and the Spoonbill was reported on rocks near Samson from St Mary’s.
St Agnes – Two Purple Sandpiper were in Porth Killier this morning with a small flock of Turnstones. aAlso on the island was a male White Wagtail and a female Merlin on what was a rather windy, showery day.
St Mary’s – The Northern Waterthrush was seen at its favourite haunt by the pumping station on Lower Moors today and the first Black-headed Gull for some time was seen from the Garrison this afternoon. Tresco – A Water Rail was out in the open on the Abbey Pool and Read more…
All Islands – There was a large influx of hirundines on all islands today, mostly Swallows with smaller numbers of Sand Martins and a few House Martins. There were also good numbers of Willow Warblers and Wheatears. St Mary’s – A female Hen Harrier flew along Peninnis late in the Read more…
St Agnes – A Goosander was reported from the island today. St Mary’s – The immature male Eider was seen again near Pendrathen and there was a noticeable influx of Swallows today
St Mary’s – On a very quiet day the only bird of note reported was a Jackdaw at Trenoweth
St Mary’s – The Northern Waterthrush was seen again in Lower Moors today. The Roads – Three Great Northern Divers were between the islands along with the Pale-bellied Brent Goose near Tean, a Bridled Guillemot with a small flock of Guillemots near Men a Vaur and at least ten Sandwich Read more…
St Mary’s – The Northern Waterthrush was seen in Lower Moors again today and the second winter Iceland Gull showed again, this time in the Standing Stones field at the south end of Lower Moors
