Sunday 19th to Saturday 25th November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Sunday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The only report was of the Dusky Warbler still at Higher Moors.
Monday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A Red Kite flew over Normandy, the Dusky Warbler was still at Higher Moors along with a Siberian Chiffchaff, a male Ring Ouzel was in a field on Carn Friars Farm, the Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and a Black-necked Grebe was in Town Bay.
Tuesday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The Dusky Warbler was still at Higher Moors, the Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and the male Ring Ouzel was still at Carn Friars Farm,
There were 2 Black-necked Grebes in Town Bay are these the birds that were at the same site last winter? (more…)

Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Tuesday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – There was a noticeable influx of finches on the island, with 100s of Chaffinches and Siskins amongst them were at least 100 Bramblings and a Hawfinch. 2 Firecrests, 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs and a Bullfinch were in Lower Moors. A Siberian Chiffchaff & a Bullfinch were in the Dump Clump and a Firecrest was in the nearby allotments. A Yellow-browed Warbler, a Siberian Chiffchaff, a Great Spotted Woodpecker & 2 Woodcocks were at Porth Hellick and 2 Bullfinches were on Higher Moors. A 1st – winter Little Gull flew over Hugh Town towards Porthcressa and a Black Redstart & a Firecrest were on the Garrison.
Wednesday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – 3 Firecrests and a late Willow Warbler were trapped at Porth Hellick Ringing Station. The Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach, a Bullfinch was at Higher Moors and a Black Redstart was on town Beach. (more…)

Friday 10th to Monday 13th November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Friday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A second-winter Iceland Gull was commuting between Porthloo, Porth Mellon and the Dump. Another Iceland Gull (a first-winter) & a Black Redstart were at Little Porth and the Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach.
Saturday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The second-winter Iceland Gull was seen at Porthloo & on town Beach and the first-winter Iceland Gull & the Black Redstart were still at Little Porth. A Siberian Chiffchaff & a Bullfinch were at Porth Hellick and the Water Pipit was still on the beach there. A Firecrest & a Siberian Chiffchaff were in Lower Moors and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were at Newford Duck Pond. (more…)

Saturday 4th to Thursday 9th November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Saturday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s –The Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and 2 Reed Buntings were in the dead grass behind the boatshed there. 5 Yellow-browed Warblers were at higher Moors between Holy Vale and Carn Friars Road. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers & a Siberian Chiffchaff were in Lower Moors and 3 Yellow-browed Warblers & a Siberian Chiffchaff were at Newford Duck Pond. A Hawfinch was on a garden feeder in Church Road, Hugh Town
Sunday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A Merlin, 5 Black Redstarts and a Snow Bunting were at Little Porth. A Brambling was in a garden at Holy Vale, the Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and a Yellow-browed Warbler was on Porth Hellick Loop trail. (more…)

Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Wednesday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The Radde’s Warbler was still at Borough Farm and 7 Hawfinches & 2 Bullfinches flew over there. A Hawfinch & a Firecrest were at Sunnyside Farm, a Black Redstart was on Holgate’s Green, a Yellow-browed Warbler & a Firecrest were in Carreg Dhu Gardens and a Yellow-browed Warbler was at Porth Hellick ringing station. The Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and a Yellow-browed Warbler was in Lower Moors. 3 Yellow-browed Warblers & a Bullfinch were at higher Moors and 4 Yellow-browed Warblers & 2 Firecrests were on Porth Hellick Loop Trail. 25 Bramblings were in a field at the bottom of Pelistry Lane and 2 Great Northern Divers were off Watermill. There were 2 Firecrests on the Garrison & a Hawfinch flew over and a Black Redstart & a Yellow-browed Warbler were at Content.

Tuesday’s birds were: St. Mary’s – A Pallas’s Warbler was at Porth Hellick ringing station, a Yellow-browed Warbler was also trapped, ringed and released. Saturday 28th October 2017 IoS Bird Sightings
Wilson’s Snipe – The candidate under discussion was at Porth Hellick Pool.
Siberian Oystercatcher – Another bird under discussion, it was reported from Porth Mellon.
Surf Scoter – Still present off New Grimsby, Tresco.
Little Bunting – 1 at Trewince and it or another at Normandy.
Richard’s Pipit – 1 at Popplestone Bay, Bryher.
Red-breasted Flycatcher – 2 in Rosehill Memorial Gardens, 1 near Spero’s Restaurant, Porth Mellon and 1 at Porthloo Lane/Telegraph junction.
Yellow-browed Warbler – 5 in Lower Moors, 3 on Porthloo Lane, 1 on Tresco and 1 caught and ringed at Porth Hellick
Hawfinch – 3 at Porthloo Lane/Telegraph junction and 1 Lower Moors.
