Tuesday 23rd October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

A selection from Tuesday’s log call:

Grey-cheeked Thrush – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Red-eyed Vireo – 1 still in Apple Tree Glade on Bryher.

Rustic Bunting – 1 was found in a field at Longstone.

Dusky Warbler – 1 in Lower Moors.

Surf Scoter – 2 between Teän and St. Helen’s.

Little Bunting – 1 Porth Mellon and 1 St. Martin’s.

Great White Egret – 1 on the beaches around Pendrathen then later retuning to Tresco.

Cattle Egret – Still 1 on Tresco.

Richard’s Pipit – Still 2 on the Airfield.

Cetti’s Warbler – Still 1 at Porth Hellick.

Water Pipit – 4 Salakee, 1 Porth Hellick Pool and Saint Warna’s Cove, St. Agnes.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 at Salakee Farm. (more…)

Monday 22nd October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

A selection from Monday’s log call:

Grey-cheeked Thrush – It was still on St. Agnes, still proving to be incredibly elusive, but showing occasionally other than early morning and late afternoon, giving birders from St. Mary’s a chance to catch up with it .

Red-eyed Vireo – 1 still in Apple Tree Glade on Bryher.

Dusky Warbler – 1 in Lower Moors.

Red-throated Pipit – 1 was in the cattle field behind the pine belt between Porth Hellick bank and Salakee down. Remarkably in the same field were 4 Water Pipits, a Rose-coloured Starling and a Serin flew over!

Little Bunting – 1 Porth Mellon and 1 Tresco.

Serin – 1 flew over Salakee.

Great White Egret – 1 on the beaches around Pendrathen then later retuning to Tresco.

Cattle Egret – 2 on Tresco.

Richard’s Pipit – 2 on the Airfield.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 heard again at Porth Hellick and 1 on St. Agnes..

Water Pipit – 4 Salakee..

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 at Salakee and 1 on St, Agnes. (more…)

Sunday 21st October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

A selection from Sunday’s log call:

Grey-cheeked Thrush – It was still on St. Agnes but was still proving to be incredibly elusive.

Red-eyed Vireo – The bird first seen on Friday was relocated in Apple Tree Glade on Bryher.

Dusky Warbler – 1 showed well on and off in Lower Moors.

Little Bunting – There were reports from Porth Mellon, the Standing Stones Field, Longstone, Pelistry and Porth Hellick, where one was trapped and ringed. Up to 5 birds could be involved in theses sightings

Great White Egret – 1 on South Beach, Tresco.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 on the Garrison before flying to the Airfield where it was joined by a second bird .

Cetti’s Warbler 1 heard again at Porth Hellick.

Cattle Egret – 2 Tresco.

Water Pipit – 1 Carn Friars.

Barred Warbler – After not been reported for 4 days it was seen again at Porth Hellick.

A selection from Saturday’s log call:

Grey-cheeked Thrush – It was seen again on St. Agnes but was still proving to be incredibly elusive..

Surf Scoter – 1 still near Teän.

Little Bunting – 2 Porth Mellon and 1 St. Martin’s.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 Airfield.

Cetti’s Warbler – Reports from Porth Hellick and Lower Moors could be one mobile bird or maybe 2.

Cattle Egret – 2 Tresco.

Water Pipit – 1 Airfield.

Common Rosefinch – 1 Bryher.

Bullfinch  – A female of this Scilly scarcity was ringed at Porth Hellick (more…)

Red-eyed Vireo 1 was found mid-afternoon on Bryher.

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 thought to be this species was heard fling over St. Agnes.

Red-throated Pipit – 1 Airfield and 1 St. Agnes.

Surf Scoter – 1 still near Teän.

Little Bunting – 1 Porth Mellon and 1 Peninnis.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 Pungies Lane

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 Porth Hellick.

Cattle Egret – 2 Tresco.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 St. Martin’s and 1 Bryher.

Grey-cheeked Thrush – A very skulking elusive individual was seen at Cove Vean, St. Agnes early morning and late afternoon until dusk.

Surf Scoter – 1 still near Teän.

Little Bunting – 1 on Bryher.

Cattle Egret – 5 Tresco.

Rose-coloured Starling – 2 juveniles on St. Martin’s.

Bullfinch – A female of this Scilly scarcity was seen at Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Great Spotted Woodpecker – 1 by the cricket pitch on St. Martin’s.

Red-backed Shrike – 1 St. Agnes and 1 Pelistry.

Common Rosefinch – Sightings at the dump, Porth Mellon and Sunnyside most likely involved just 1 individual.

Barn Owl – 1 Porth Hellick Loop. This a very scarce bird on Scilly.

Barred Warbler – 1 Porth Hellick.

Rose-coloured Starling – A juvenile on St. Martin’s.

Water Pipit – 1 by the pool on Bryher.

Red-breasted Flycatcher – 1 Carreg Dhu Gardens.
