Friday 13th October 2017 IoS Bird Sightings

A selection from Friday’s log:

Western Orphean Warbler – The bird seen briefly last night gave frustratingly brief views until pinned down in mid-afternoon. This is only the second record for Scilly, the first being on St. Mary’s in October 1981!

Blyth’s Reed Warbler – 1 near Pendrathen, St. Mary’s.

Isabelline Wheatear – 1 still on St. Mary’s Airfield.

American Golden Plover – 1 still on Porth Hellick Beach.

Spotted Crake – 1 still in Lower Moors.

Spoonbill – 1 on Green Island, Samson.

Hawfinch – 1 Newford Duck Pond, 1 Jac-a-ba and 1 St. Agnes.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 4 on St. Mary’s, 2 on St. Agnes and 1 on Tresco. (more…)

Orphean Warbler – A probable seen at Troy Town Farm late afternoon

Wilson’s Snipe – A probable on Port Hellick Pool, the jury is still out!

Isabelline Wheatear – 1 still on St. Mary’s Airfield.

Short-toed Lark – One seen on Peninnis in the morning.

American Golden Plover – 1 still on Porth Hellick Beach.

Rose-coloured Starling – A juvenile still on Buzza Hill.

Red-breasted Flycatcher – The first of the autumn was in pines along the coastal path between Pelistry and Watermill Cove.

Friday 6th October 2017 IoS Bird Sightings

Vagrant Emperor Dragonfly, St. Mary’s, (M. Goodey)

A selection from Friday’s log call:

A Vagrant Emperor Dragonfly was seen in Sunnyside Farm fields opposite the entrance to Trewince in the morning and another was on Tresco in the afternoon.

Cedar Waxwing – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Cliff Swallow – 1 still on St. Mary’s, around the airfield and Lower Moors, seen flying towards Porth Hellick early evening.

Isabelline Wheatear – 1 still on St. Mary’s Airfield.

Bee-eater – 3 on Tresco, then flew to St. Martin’s.

American Golden Plover – 1 still on Porth Hellick Beach.

Purple Heron – 1 flew along the coast past Juliet’s Garden Café and headed for Tresco.
