European Storm-petrel – 4 on the evening pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s.
Porbeagle Shark – 1 caught, tagged and released on the evening pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s. The first of the year was one over 7ft long and estimated to weigh 250-300lb, this is the largest shark ever caught from the MV Sapphire.
Swift – 1 over Higher Moors, 4 over Buzza and probably the same 4 over Porthloo.
Friday (08/07)
Red-footed Falcon – 1 was over Middle Town, St. Martin’s.
Pomarine Skua – 1 between St. Mary’s and St. Agnes.
Swift – 1 over Trenoweth and 2 on St. Martin’s.
Saturday (09/07)
Common Sandpiper – 1 at Carn Leh, Old Town Bay.
Hobby – 1 over Longstone was probably the one seen earlier over Higher Moors.
Common Swift – 1 over Holy Vale.
Sunday (10/07)
Laughing Gull – An adult in full summer-plumage, flew past Little Bay, St. Martin’s and then flew towards Teän/ St. Helen’s.
Red-footed Falcon – The male was seen again on St. Martin’s, over Middle Town heading towards the Daymark.
Hobby – 1 St. Martin’s.
Little Egret – 1 on Tean.
Whimbrel – 1 near Samson.
Mediterranean Gull – 26 off Old Grimsby, Tresco.
Yellow-legged Gull – A juvenile was off Tean.
Common Swift – 3 over Holy Vale, 1 over Rocky Hill and 1 over the Daymark, St. Martin’s.
Monday (11/07)
Sooty Shearwater – 1 in Scillonian waters seen from the Scillonian III on the return sailing from St. Mary’s to Penzance.
Tuesday (12/07)
Fin Whale – 2 on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock (photo).
Sooty Shearwater – 1 on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
European Storm-petrel – 40+ on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
Common Swift – c50 over the Garrison in the evening.
Blue Shark – 1 caught, tagged and released on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
Porbeagle Shark – 1 on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
Ocean Sunfish – 2 on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
Common Dolphin – 100+ on the evening pelagic trip 3 miles south of Bishop Rock.
