Friday
A Great Northern Diver was off St. Agnes and a Lapwing, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper, 10 Greenshank & a Cetti’s Warbler were at Porth Hellick. A Whimbrel flew over the Garrison, 3 Pied Flycatcher were in the Garrison Pines, a Wheatear was near the Star Castle and 2 Crossbill were at Longstone.
On St. Agnes a Hobby and 3 Wheatear were on Wingletang.
A Great Shearwater, a Cory’s Shearwater, 8 European Storm-petrel and a Basking Shark were seen from the Scillonian III morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.
The “Birders Special” evening pelagic trip 5 miles south of St. Mary’s produced 39 Great Shearwater, 2 Cory’s Shearwater, a Sooty Shearwater, c20 European Storm-petrel, 6 Wilson’s Storm-petrel, 6 Great Skua and a first-summer type Pomarine Skua.
Saturday
37 Sandwich Tern, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Curlew and a Common Sandpiper were at Porthcressa. 20+ Arctic Tern, 3 Sandwich Tern and a Whimbrel were seen on a boat trip to Bishop Rock
2 Green Sandpiper, a Common Sandpiper and 6 Greenshank were at Porth Hellick, a Green Sandpiper was in Lower Moors and another flew over :Longstone, where there was also a Spotted Flycatcher and a Whimbrel flew past Star Castle.
A Mistle Thrush (unusual at this time of year) was on Peninnis and 8 Swift were over Lower Moors & Longstone and 5 were over St. Agnes.
Another Mistle Thrush was on St. Martin’s, where there were also 40 Sanderling and 5 Dunlin.
Another kayak trip to Tresco yielded a juvenile Mediterranean x Black-headed Gull, a Wood Sandpiper, a Kingfisher a White Wagtail and a Whinchat.
The “Birders Special” daytime pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s produced 31 Great Shearwater, c20 European Storm-petrel, 4 Wilson’s Storm-petrel, 2 Great Skua, a Sabine’s Gull, a Grey Phalarope, a Black Tern, 100s of Common Dolphin and a Blue Shark.
