At least 2 pairs of Ringed Plover are nesting on St. Martin’s and 2 pairs of Wheatear are near the Daymark.
Thursday
An Osprey was on Taylors Island, Porthloo, it then flew over Old Town and Kittydown. It was photographed and the photos showed it to be bearing a blue ring on the right leg with the inscription KL7 on it. Subsequent enquiries showed that it was ringed as one of three chicks at a nest in the grounds of Beaufort Castle, near Beauly, Inverness-shire on 7th July 2018.
A Honey Buzzard was on St. Martin’s and 25+ Sanderlingwere on Middle Town Beach.
A Balearic Shearwater flew north past Giant’s Castle and on the Airfield a Quail flew off eastern edge of the southern runway, a female Red-backed Shrike was in the gorse & a Hobby flew over.
Friday
An adult Rose-coloured Starling was in the Salakee Farm Cow fields, the Turtle Dove was still in a garden on the Garrison and a Hobby was seen over Pilot’s Retreat, Hugh Town & over Porth Hellick. The Honey Buzzard was still on St. Martin’s where a Cuckoo was calling and a Whitethroat was singing both at Middle Town.
Saturday
The Rose-coloured Starling was on the Porth Hellick Loop, the Turtle Dove was still in a garden on the Garrison and Hobby was seen over Hugh Town, Porth Hellick and the Garrison.
On St. Martin’s a male and a female Marsh Harrier were seen 10 minutes apart and a Little Ringed Plover was on Middle Town Beach.
Sunday
A Swift & a Hobby were over the Garrison and a Golden Oriole was singing at Watermill.
