Monday 15th October 2012 IoS Bird Reports

Highlights from Mondays bird log include:

Hume’s Leaf Warbler – 1 was found in the dump clump, proving very difficult to see, but calling diagnostically. This was only the 3rd record for Silly the last one being in November 2002.

Solitary Sandpiper – What was almost certainly the Bryher bird was seen briefly at Lower Moors, before flying off south.

Blackpoll Warbler – 1 was still on Bryher and showing intermittently but well at times.

American Golden Plover – 1 was on Porth Hellick beach.

Short-toed Lark – 1 was found at Carn Friars.

Coal Tit – 2 Lower Moors, 3 on Bryher, 3 on Tresco, 3 on St. Agnes and 1 on Gugh.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 2 Lower Moors, 1 Dump Clump, 1 Bants Carn and 1 on St. Agnes.

Whooper Swan – 6 on still the Great Pool, Tresco.

Wigeon – A female on Tresco.

Sooty Shearwater – 2 were seen from the Scillonian return trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Balearic Shearwater – 2 flew past Peninnis and 1 was seen from the Scillonian return trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Spoonbill – 1 still on Green Island, Samson.

Little Egret – 16 in Tresco Channel.

Merlin – A female on Peninnis.

Grey Plover – 2 in Tresco Channel.

Jack Snipe – 1 at Lower Moors.

Mediterranean Gull – A second -winter bird was at Porthloo.

Great Spotted Woodpecker – 1 in Holy Vale and 1 on the Garrison.

Black Redstart – 1 on Peninnis.

Common Redstart – 1 on Bryher.

Whinchat – 1 on the airfield.

Ring Ouzel – 2 over Watermill, 2 at Deep Point, 1 Porth Minnick and 1 on Peninnis..

Spotted flycatcher – 1 in the Dump Clump and 1 on St. Agnes.

Pied flycatcher – 1 on St. Agnes.

Brambling – 1 on the Garrison.

Siskin – 1 Holy Vale and 2 on the airfield.

Lesser Redpoll – 1 on the Garrison and 1 at Old Town.

Snow Bunting – 1 on Porthloo Beach..
