St Mary’s – The bird of the day came just before dusk when small birds were heard mobbing something in the bushes by the gate on Higher Moors. On investigating one lucky local observer saw a SCOPS OWL looking back at him. Sadly it did not stay long and was not re-found despite extensive searching. The Northern Waterthrush was seen again in Lower Moors today. The Serin was singing near the Riding Stables and the Hoopoe had moved to the Bant’s Carn area. Five Black Redstarts were at Telegraph with anther three at Bant’s Carn. Ring Ouzels were at Bant’s Carn and Bar Point. A House Martin was also over Bant’s Carn with two more over Hugh Town and the Great Spotted Woodpecker popped up at Bar Point. Twelve White Wagtails were at Carn Friars and a Rook was found on the Golf Course later in the day.
Tresco – The two Spoonbills were on the Abbey Pool along with the Dark-bellied Brent Goose . Two Short-eared Owls were near Pentle Bay at noon and two Swallows were over the island as was the lone Common Buzzard
Bryher – A Wryneck was found this afternoon near Popplestone Bay. Also on the island were a Tree Pipit and a Ring Ouzel along with six Black Redstarts and ten Willow Warblers
