St Mary’s – The Northern Waterthrush again showed in Lower Moors early and late today. The long staying Bee-eater was seen at several locations over the island during the day. The Woodchat Shrike was on the northern edge of the Airport and a Wryneck was in the Dump Clump. Two Med Gulls were seen from Hugh Town Quay with eight Sandwich Terns. No sign all day of the Black and White Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, Green winged Teal or Solitary Sandpiper.
Tresco – Four Pectoral Sandpipers were on the Great Pool along with three Curlew Sandpipers. Also on the island were two Wryneck and the Red-backed Shrike was again near the Abbey Pool. One of the rarest birds today was the Goshawk seen over the Great Pool.
St Agnes – A very tame Pectoral Sandpiper was on Periglis beach as was the Baird’s Sandpiper earlier in the day. A Wryneck was seen in Warna’s Cover.
At Sea – On today’s pelagic trip to the north west of the islands 20+ Sabine’s Gulls were noted along with a Grey Phalarope, eight Sooty Shearwaters, ten Great Skuas, 20+ Storm Petrels and 150+ Common Dolphins. The return trip from St Mary’s to Penzance on the Scillonian produced Balearic Shearwater, three Grey Phalaropes, seven Storm Petrels, Arctic and Great Skuas and a Minke Whale.
