Hoopoe – How many birds were o the islands is anyone’s guess (20?), there were 4 or 5 on St. Mary’s, an estimate of 5 on Bryher and an estimated 10! on St. Martin’s.

Ring Ouzel – 1 on Bryher.

White Stork – The released bird from Knepp was seen again, this time on Tresco.

Great White Egret  – 1 in Porth Cressa on rocks below the Peninnis Allotments.

Little Egret  – 1 in Porth Cressa on rocks below the Peninnis Allotments.

Golden Plover – 1 flew over the Garrison.

Sandwich Tern – 3 flew north over Hugh Town.

Sand Martin  – 6 Porth Hellick, 2 Porthloo Farm and 3 on St. Martin’s.

House Martin  – 1 Porth Hellick.

Swallow – 1 over the airfield and 4 Porth Hellick.

Firecrest  –  1 singing in Carreg Dhu Gardens.

Redwing – 25 in the Longstone/Trewince area, 25 at Parting Carn and 17 Porthloo Farm

Fieldfare – 1 at Parting Carn.

Wheatear  – 2 at Porthloo,

Black Redstart  –  7 at Porthloo, 5 at Porth Cressa/Little Porth, 2 in a garden on High Lanes and 1 on the Garrison Campsite

Blue-headed Wagtail – 1 on the Garrison Campsite, 1 at Pelistry Riding Stables and 1 Pool Green, St. Martin’s.

White Wagtail – 30 at Pelistry Riding Stables, 12 Porthloo and 15 Pool Green, St. Martin’s.

Monday (24/03)

There was an astounding arrival of wagtails on Tresco, see below

Spanish Wagtail – There appeared to be 3 on Tresco. 1 on the Heliport and 2 on Simpson’s Field.

Ashy-headed Wagtail – 1 on Simpson’s Field, Tresco.

Blue Headed Wagtail – 16+ on Simpson’s Field Tresco and 6 on the Garrison playing field.

White Wagtail –35+ on Simson’s Field, Tresco and 80+ on St. Mary’s.

Hoopoe  – 1 behind Shark’s Pit, 1 at Mount Todden, 1 on the Garrison football pitch, 1 in a horse paddock at Carn Friars, 2 on Wingletang, St. Agnes and  on St. Martin’s 1 at Pool Green & 4 on the Campsite.

Cattle Egret – 1 on Tresco.

Hen Harrier – 1 over Wingletang, St. Agnes.

Shorrt-eared Owl – 1 Wingletang, St. Agnes.

Sandwich Tern – 3 over the Eastern Isles.

Great Northern Diver – 1 Porth Cressa Bay and 1 Eastern Isles/

Red-breasted Merganser – 2 in Tresco Channel.

Golden Plover – 1 flew over the Golf Course.

Dunlin – 1 on Tresco.

Whimbrel – 1 Porth Hellick Bay.

Puffin – 3 seen in Scilly waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Skylark – 4 on Tresco.

House Martin – 1 on Tresco

Sand Martin – 15 on Tresco

Swallow – 3 on Tresco.

Willow Warbler – 1 Trewince, 1 at Shooters’ Pool and “several” on Tresco.

Redwing –  10 Parting Carn and 1 St. Agnes.

Ring Ouzel – A male at Deep Point.

Wheatear – 1 Trewince and 1 on St. Agnes.

Common Redstart – 1 at Mount Todden 1 by the Garrison playing field.

Black Redstart – 25+ on St. Mary’s, 4 on Tresco and 1 on St. Agnes.

Yellow Wagtail – 1 flew over Trewince.

Grey Wagtail – 1 in a garden on the Garrison.

Siskin – 1 singing in Holy Vale.

Brambling – 1 on Tresco.

Tuesday (25/03)

Hoopoe – 1 on the track to Pendrathen, 1 holy Vale, 2 on Tresco and 1 on St. Agnes.

Little Egret – 2 Porth Hellick Bay and 2 Porthloo.

Woodcock – 1 by Higher Moors pumping station.

Whimbrel – 1 on Porth Hellick Beach.

Willow Warbler – 2 Porth Hellick.

Wheatear – 3 between Porth Hellick Down and Deep Point.

Black Redstart – 5 at Little Porth,1 at Porthloo and 1 in the pastures below Porth Hellick House.

Common Redstart – 1 on rock north of Giant’s Castle.

Wednesday (26/03)

Hoopoe – At least 3 on possibly 4 on St. Martin’s, 1 on St Agnes and 1 at Great Par. Bryher

Black-throated Diver – 6 seen from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s and 1 St. Martin’s.

Ring Ouzel – 1 in a field by King Edward’s Road, Peninnis.

Blue-headed Wagtail – 2 in cattle fields on Peninnis, 2 on Little Porth (photo) and 1 at Stinky Porth Bryher. Where there was also a hybrid type with a white throat.

Green Sandpiper – 1 in a flooded field at Hillside Farm, Bryher.

Skylark – 2 on Bryher.

Firecrest – 1singing opposite Longstone Cottage.

Fieldfare – 1 at the north end of the Golf Course,

Redwing  – 4 at the junction of Porthloo Lane/Rocky Hill and 1 on Bryher.

Wheatear – 2 on Bryher.

Common Redstart – A male at Great Par, Bryher.

Black Redstart – 1 Little Porth and 1 at Great Par, Bryher.

Tree Pipit – 1 singing in the pine belt at the north end of the Golf Course.

White Wagtail – 10 on Bryher.

Minke Whale – 1 south of Peninnis.

Thursday (27/03)

Hoopoe – On St. Martin’s 1 flew west from the campsite in the morning and it or another was seen on the  Cricket Pitch in the afternoon.

Raven –  1 on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Skylark – 2 on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s

Firecrest – 2 in aa garden near Bar Point.

Black Redstart – 1 at Little Porth.

Blue-headed Wagtail – 1 at Little Porth.

Friday (28/03)

Manx Shearwater – 40 in Scilly waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Little Egret – 4 at Porthloo.

Arctic Skua – A dark phase bird was seen in Scilly waters from the Scillonian III on the crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Sand Martin –3 Porth Hellick.

Swallow – 1 Porth Hellick.

Ring Ouzel – 1 on the eastern side of Peninnis.

Black Redstart – 1 at Morning Point, 1 at Blue Carn and 1 at Little Porth.

White Wagtail – 2 at Little Porth.

Saturday (29/03)

Great Northern Diver – 2 off Bar Point.

Whimbrel –2 on St. Agnes.

Sandwich Tern –  1 off Hugh Town Harbour.

Merlin – A female flew over the airfield.

Swallow – 1 at Telegraph.

Cetti’s Warbler – There seems to be a territory expansion. Away from their usual sites in the  Lower Moors and Higher Moors/Porth Hellick areas, 1 has been heard singing for several weeks around Star Castle.

Redwing – 1 at Parting Carn.

Wheatear – 2 on St. Agnes.

Black Redstart – 2 Little Porth and 7 on St. Agnes.
