Sunday (16/03)
Cattle Egret – 1 briefly by Pool Road, Tresco.
Little Egret – 1 at Porthloo.
Great Northern Diver – 1 mid channel between Tresco & St. Mar’s.
Woodcock – 1 in Carreg Dhu Gardens.
Sand Martin – 1 over the Great Pool, Tresco.
Firecrest – 1 in Carreg Dhu Gardens.
Chiffchaff – 20 at Porthloo.
Black Redstart – An adult male on Little Porth and 2 female type at Porthloo.
Grey Wagtail – 2 Higher Moors.
White Wagtail – 2 Porthloo.
Monday (17/03)
White Stork – ! of the birds reintroduced on the Knepp rewilded estate in Sussex was seen on the church tower on St. Martin’s (photo). It was subsequently seen flying and in fields around Middletown.
Great White Egret – 1 Old Town Bay.
Tuesday (18/03)
White Stork – ! Still n St. Martin’s and then flew towards Tresco.
Great White Egret – 1 flew over Carn Morval towards Porthloo.
Pintail – A drake was on Porth Hellick Pool.
Black Redstart – A female type was in a garden at Shark’s Pit.
Grey Wagtail – 1 in Holy Vale.
White Wagtail – 4 at Porthloo and 2 at the Pelistry Riding Stables.
Wednesday (19/01)
White Stork – ! Still n St. Martin’s,
Great White Egret – 1 at Higher Moors.
Firecrest – 1 at Longstone.
Black Redstart – 1 at Little Porth (photo) and 1 on the west side of Peninnis.
Fieldfare – 1 on the west side of Peninnis.
Redwing – 6 at Longstone.
Thursday (20/03)
Hoopoe– 1 on the Garrison Campsite and 1 on St. Martin’s (photo).
White Stork – 1 still n St. Martin’s,
Cetti’s Warbler – 1 by Porth Hellick Pool.
Firecrest – 1 singing opposite Watermill junction.
Black Redstart – 1 at Higher Battery on the Garrison and 1 Longstone Farm.
Yellow Wagtail – 4 birds, all males. 3 were Blue-headed and the other was thought to be a “Channel” Wagtail a hybrid Yellow & Blue-headed (photo).
White Wagtail – 15 on the Garrison playing fields & adjacent pastures and 10 in fields opposite Longstone Lodge.
Friday (21/03)
Hoopoe – There were at least 6 on the islands today: 1 on St. Martin’s, 1 on Bryher and 4 probably 5 on St. Mary’s.
Little Egret – 8 Porthloo.
Swallow – 2 over a field a Townshill, Tresco.
Willow Warbler – 1 opposite Carreg Dhu Carpark and 1 at the north end of the Golf Course.
Chiffchaff – A noticeable and widespread arrival.
Firecrest – 1 singing in the pines behind Longstone Terrace,
Redwing – 20 in the Longstone area and 6 on the Garrison
Black Redstart – 1 in the garden of Longstone Cottage, 1 in the chicken field next to Peninnis Farm, 9 at Bant’s Carn, 1 on the Garrison and 4 on Tresco.
Yellow Wagtail – 1 flew southeast over Longstone.
Blue-headed Wagtail – 2 in the horse field at the Holy Vale end of Sandy Lane, 2 in the chicken field next to Peninnis Farm, 2 Porthloo and 3 at the northwest end of the Great Pool, Tresco.
Grey Wagtail – 1 in Holy Vale and 1 over Higher Moors.
White Wagtail – 40+ in the horse field at the Holy Vale end of Sandy Lane and 5 in the chicken field at Tremelethen.
Brambling – 1 at Higher Town, St. Martin’s.
Saturday (22/03)
Hoopoe – 1 in the garden of the house called “Sallows” at Longstone and 1 again at the Garrison Campsite.
Hawfinch – 1 at Middletown, St. Martin’s.
Snow Bunting – an unseasonal bird on Sallyport.
Common Redstart – 2 very early bird , a male, was by Barnes Acre, Normandy and 1 in the pastures by the Garrison playing fields.
Tree Pipit – 4 more early spring migrants, 2 in a by the Kittydown track and 2 near the Millstone on King Edward’s Lane, Peninnis.
Blue-headed Wagtail – 8 in the pastures by the Garrison playing fields.
Great White Egret – 1 Old Town Bay.
Little Egret – 13 on the rocks below Juliet’s Garden.
Great Northern Diver – 1 off Lawrence’s beach, St. Martin’s,
Marsh Harrier – 1 flew out of Holy Vale towards Parting Carn.
Sandwich Tern – 1 on rocks in Porth Cressa Bay.
Sand Martin – 8 Old Town Bay, 3 Porth Minnick and 7 over Peninnis.
Firecrest – 3 in the Longstone area.
Willow Warbler – 6 in the fields between the Kittydown track and Carn Friars Lane and 1 Old Town Bay.
Wheatear – 5 on the Airfield
Black Redstart – 1 by the Airfield turning circle, 2 at Woolpack Battery, Garison and 4 at Little Porth
White Wagtail – 15 in the pastures by the Garrison playing fields.
