Red-footed Booby – Not seen from the boat that met the birders off the Scillonian III, but was sat on the top of the Bishop Rock Lighthouse at about 18:00

Brown Booby – It was reported at 10:40 but there was not seen from the boat that met the birders off the Scillonian III. What may have been the bird was spotted from the evening pelagic trip some distance from the lighthouse.

Cory’s Shearwater – 50+ near the Bishop Rock on the morning booby trip and 800 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Great Shearwater – 5 near the Bishop Rock on the morning booby trip and 20 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Sooty Shearwater – 3 near the Bishop Rock on the morning booby trip and 3 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Manx Shearwater – 150 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Wryneck – 1 in the Sheep Fields on St. Martin’s.

Woodchat Shrike – The juvenile was still on wires on the west side of Sandy Lane and 1 was still on Salakee Down. 

Red-backed Shrike – 1 still in the field opposite the entrance to Parting Carn Farm.

Merlin – 1 flew over Porth Mellon.

Ruff – 1 still on Tresco Heliport.

Common Sandpiper – 1 in Old Town Bay,

Whimbrel – 1 still on Tresco Heliport.

Spotted Flycatcher – 2 on Neptune steps in Tresco Abbey Gardens.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 at Helvear and 1 in the Sheep Fields on St. Martin’s.

Tree Pipit – 1 in the Sheep Fields on St. Martin’s.

Blue Shark – 2 caught, tagged and released on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Wednesday (30/08)

Red-footed Booby – Again not seen from the boat that met the birders off the Scillonian III, but frustratingly for the day trippers was again sat on the top of the Bishop Rock Lighthouse in the evening, seen from a locally chartered jet boat.

Scopoli’s Shearwater – A ‘probable’ was seen near Bishop Rock on the daytime ‘Booby hunting’ trip.

Cory’s Shearwater – 35 flew past St. Agnes and 2 off Tresco.

Woodchat Shrike – A juvenile was still on wires on the north side of Sandy Lane, 1 was still on Salakee Down and a third was on Browarth, St, Agnes.

Shoveler – A female was on Porth Hellick Pool.

Green Sandpiper – 1 in Lower Moors.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 at Maypole.

Spotted Flycatcher – 2 Carn Friars.

Whinchat – 2 Carn Friars.

Common Redstart – 1 near the windsock on the airfield and 1 at Maypole.

Thursday (31/08)

Red-footed Booby – Once more not seen from the boat that met the birders off the Scillonian III but was again sat on the top of the Bishop Rock Lighthouse in the evening, seen from the evening fishing/sharking/birding trip.

Wilson’s Storm-petrel – 1 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

European Storm-petrel – 20 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock and 1 in Scilly waters seen on a charter from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Cory’s Shearwater – ca 400 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock, 420 of Horse Point, St. Agnes and 39 in Scilly waters seen on a charter from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Great Shearwater –45 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock and 1 in Scilly waters seen on a charter from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Sooty Shearwater – 2 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock and 1 in Scilly waters seen on a charter from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Manx Shearwater –ca 200 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock and 14 in Scilly waters seen on a charter from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Arctic Tern – 2 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.

Red-backed Shrike – A juvenile was in the pine belt going up from Port Hellick to Salakee Down.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 in the field opposite Lower Moors sewage works.

Short-beaked Common Dolphin – 40 on the evening pelagic trip 5 km southwest of the Bishop Rock.
