Cattle Egret – 7 with cows in fields bordering holy Vale,
Willow Warbler – The first of the year was 1 singing near the Seaward Hide at Porth Hellick.
White Wagtail – 3 on Porth Hellick Beach.
Sunday (26/03)
Lesser Kestrel – The adult male was seen on Peninnis and on the airfield.
Richard’s Pipit – 1 still on the airfield
Great Northern Diver – 1 off Pendrathen and 1 Porth Cressa.
Sand Martin – 4 just west of Longstone Bungalow and 9 at Porth Hellick
Swallow – 3 just west of Longstone Bungalow and 2 at Porth Hellick
White Wagtail – 4 over Longstone.
Monday (27/03)
Lesser Kestrel – The adult male was still present but ranging over a wide area. It was seen on Peninnis, Bant’s Carn, the airfield and at one time was seen to Fly to Tresco but was back on St. Mary’s late afternoon.
Great White Egret – Two flew west over Parting Carn.
Slavonian Grebe – 2 towards the Eastern Isles looking from English Point on St. Martin’s.
Black-throated Diver – 1 flew past Bar Point.
Common Scoter – 5 towards the Eastern Isles looking from English Point on St. Martin’s.
Sandwich Tern – 17 St. Martin’s
Swallow – 5 over Porth Hellick Pool.
Sand Martin – 1 over Porth Hellick Pool.
Cetti’s warbler – 1calling near the Dump Clump.
Willow Warbler – 1 in Lower Moors.
Wheatear – The first report of the year was 1 at the Daymark, St. Martin’s.
Tuesday (28/03)
Richard’s Pipit – 1 Still on the airfield by the terminal apron.
Corn Bunting – 1 with the Richard’s Pipit on the airfield by the terminal apron. This is a rare bird on Scilly.
Short-eared Owl – 1 flew over Lower Moors at dusk.
Sand Martin – 2 over Porth Hellick Pool
Wednesday (29/03)
Richard’s Pipit – 1 Still on the airfield by the terminal apron.
Long-eared Owl – 1 in Apple Tree Glade, Bryher.
Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Cressa Bay.
Sandwich Tern – 1 in Porth Cressa Bay.
Swallow – 10 over Halangy Down
House Martin – 1 flying around the Methodist Church in Hugh Town.
Cetti’s Warbler – 1 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.
Willow Warbler – 2 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors and 1 at Porth Hellick.
Black Redstart – 1 on Bryher.
Thursday (30/03)
Great White Egret – 1 flew over Longstone.
Ping-footed Goose – 3 flew northeast over the Garrison towards the golf course.
Wigeon – A pair on Porth Hellick Pool.
Little Egret – 1 at Porth Hellick.
Harrier sp. – A ring-tailed harrier was seen briefly/distantly several times on St. Mary’s and once on Bryher but the views were never good enough or prolonged to click the ID. Thought to be possibly a Pallid Harrier or maybe a small Hen Harrier.
Sandwich Tern – 6 Porth Mellon.
Swallow – About 20 over Porth Hellick Pool.
Ring Ousel – The first of the Spring was 1 on Bryher.
Black Redstart – 1 on Bryher.
White Wagtail – 4 in the chicken field by the Tremelethen Trail.
Friday 31/03)
Cattle Egret – 5 on Simpson’s Field, Tresco.
Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Cressa Bay.
Pintail – A report of “several” on the Great Pool, Tresco
Manx Shearwater – 36 among a steady passage of seabirds past Peninnis Head in an hour.
Harrier sp. – The ring-tailed harrier was seen briefly again flying north over the Riding Stables, Pelistry.
Merlin – 1 flew across Town Beach.
Swallow – Still about 20 over Porth Hellick Pool.
House Martin – 4 over Porth Hellick Pool.
