An excellent day ended with an action packed Birders Special Pelagic trip 11 miles north of St. Mary’s. With fantastic views of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna and a good variety of some special birds, including a Wilson’s Storm-petrel which was number 122 for the season a new record.
Lesser Yellowlegs – 1 still on Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Glossy Ibis – 1 still on Porth Hellick Pool (photo).
Red-backed Shrike – A juvenile near the Daymark, St. Martins
Wilson’s Storm-petrel – 1 on the evening Birders’ pelagic trip (photo). This takes the season’s total to a record 122, the previous record of 121 included 6 seen in Scillonian waters from a research vessel. All records so far this season are from pelagic trips on the M.V, Sapphire.
Great Shearwater – 4 on the evening Birders’ pelagic trip (photo).
Balearic Shearwater – 5 on the evening Birders’ pelagic trip (photo).

Green Sandpiper – 2 Lower Moors, 3 Porth Hellick Pool and 1 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Common Sandpiper – 2 Garrison , 1 Porth Hellick Bay and 2 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Swift – 2 over Porth Hellick Pool and 4 Newford
Whitethroat – 2 Garrison, 1 Porth Minnick and 1 Carn Friars Farm
Spotted Flycatcher – 1 in the Carn Friars maze orchard.
Pied Flycatcher – 4 Dead Pine Walk & 1 in a garden behind Star Castle, Garrison, 2 Newford,1 Carreg Dhu Gardens, 1 in the Carn Friars maze orchard, 1 on the track from Longstone to Holy Vale, 1 Abbey Road, Tresco and 1 by the bakery on St. Martin’s.
Tree Pipit – 1 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.
Garden Warbler – 1 Dead Pine Walk.
Minke Whale – 1 on the evening Birders’ Special pelagic trip 11 miles north of St. Mary’s.
Short-billed Common Dolphin – 200 on the evening Birders’ Special pelagic trip 11 miles north of St. Mary’s.
