Tuesday
A Balearic Shearwater flew past Peninnis Head and a Cory’s Shearwater was seen from the Scillonian III on the return trip to Penzance.
A Green Sandpiper was between Pendrathen & Bar Point and a Whinchat & a Wheatear were near Peninnis Lighthouse.
The evening sharking/pelagic trip 5 miles south of St. Mary’s continued the recent run of good sightings, birds seen were 5 Wilson’s Storm-petrel, 100 European Storm-petrel, an amazing 344 Great Shearwater, 6 Cory’s Shearwater, 4 Sooty Shearwater, 2 Balearic Shearwater, 2 “fully spooned” adult Pomarine Skua, 2 Great Skua and 2 Arctic Tern. Also seen were 50 Common Dolphin, 30 Bluefin Tuna and a Blue Shark was caught, tagged and released.
Wednesday
2 Cory’s Shearwater & 2 Great Shearwater were seen off Peninnis Head and a further 4 Great Shearwater were seen from the Scillonian III before Wolf Rock, a European Storm-petrel and a Great Skua were also seen from the ferry.
A Whimbrel was flying around Innisidgen, a Common Sandpiper & a Green Sandpiper were on Porth Hellick Pool and a second Green Sandpiper was in Lower Moors. An Hobby flew over Peninnis, a Kingfisher was in Great Bay, St. Martin’s, the Whinchat was still near Peninnis Lighthouse and single Pied Flycatcher were seen in the Garrison Pines & Rocky Hills.
