Wednesday 13th – Another Dusky Warbler was found, this time in bushes at Newford Duck Pond. A Little Egret & 3 Mediterranean Gull were at Porthcressa.
Thursday 14th – 2 Chough were reported on the Airfield by a non-birder, their description was spot on. A Whimbrel, a Yellow-legged Gull and the first Iceland Gull of the winter were at Morning Point on the Garrison. A Yellow-browed Warbler was at Newford Duck Pond.
Friday 15th – The 2 Chough reported yesterday, were still on the Airfield and then flew to Peninnis, these were only the 7th & 8th birds for Scilly. 9 Dark-bellied Brent Geese & an Iceland Gull flew over the Airfield, a Lapwing & a Mistle Thrush were in a cow field on Peninnis and a Mediterranean Gull was off Peninnis.
Saturday 16th – The Green-winged Teal was back at Newford Duck Pond after going missing for several weeks. Examination of Mitochondrial DNA from one of its feathers indicates its mother was a GWT. This seems to be confirmed, as it is now moulting into drake plumage and the there is a vertical white stripe on one side, we await further plumage development.
The 2 Chough were still on Peninnis and the was a very confiding Lapland Bunting near the track to Porth Hellick Ringing Station. 2 Mediterranean Gull were at Little Porth, a Woodcock was at Longstone and a Merlin was at Little Porth. A late Swallow. a late Willow Warbler, a Siberian Chiffchaff and a Yellow-browed Warbler were in Lower Moors.
Another Yellow-browed Warbler was at Newford Duck Pond, 20 Redwing were in a nearby field and 2 Black Redstart were at Porthloo & another was at Little Porth.
Sunday 17th – The Dusky Warbler was still at Porth Hellick & possibly a second bird there and the 2 Chough were on the airfield before moving back to Peninnis. The Swallow & the Willow Warbler were still in Lower Moors and the Cetti’s Warbler, 2 Siberian Chiffchaff, 4 Brambling & the Lapland Bunting were at Porth Hellick. Single Yellow-browed Warbler were on Porth Hellick main path, on the Loop Trail & at Newford Duck Pond and 3 Firecrest were at Porth Hellick, 2 were at Sunnyside, 2 were at Holy Vale & 1 was at Carn Friars.
A Black Redstart was at Little Porth and a Grey Wagtail & a Siskin were at Newford Duck Pond.
