Thursday’s birds were:
Bryher – The Dotterel was still on Shipman Head Down and an Osprey flew in from the direction of Tresco. Also seen on the island were 6 Common Swifts, 2 Spotted Flycatchers and a Lesser Redpoll.
St. Agnes – A Common Swift, 2 Cuckoos, a Black Redstart, a White Wagtail, a Spotted Flycatcher and a Common Whitethroat.
St. Mary’s – A Spotted Flycatcher was at Trenoweth and a Common Whitethroat was trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick.
St. Martin’s – 3 Common Swifts.
Inter-island waters – 85+ Manx Shearwaters were off Annet and 5 Great Northern Divers were off Samson/Annet.
At sea – Amongst the birds seen on the first pelagic trip of the year (earlier than usual), were 10+European Storm-petrels, an Arctic Tern and a Great Skua.
Friday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A male Golden Oriole was singing near the Chaplaincy in Hugh Town early morning and was later heard in Lower Moors and Trenoweth. A Hobby was also seen at the latter site.
Bryher – A Whimbrel, a Dotterel, a Hobby, a Cuckoo, 12 Wheatears, a Whinchat and a Spotted Flycatcher.
St. Martin’s – 4 Whimbrels and a Spotted Flycatcher.
St. Agnes – A Cuckoo.
Saturday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A splendid adult male Red-backed Shrike was found in the field bordering the boardwalk at Porth Hellick late afternoon. Birders who went to see the Shrike found a Common Sandpiper and the year’s first Wood Sandpiper on the pool. A Black Redstart was at Thomas Porth.
Tresco – 9 Whimbrels, 40+ Dunlins, a Pochard a Cuckoo and a Hobby.
St. Agnes – A Whimbrel and a Cuckoo.
Sunday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A Garden Warbler & a Cuckoo were at Porth Hellick, with a another Cuckoo on the Garrison. A Turtle Dove was at Telegraph, a Common Whitethroat was at Salakee and single Spotted Flycatchers were at Lower Moors and Innisidgen.
Tresco – A cracking summer-plumaged Grey Plover, 17 Whimbrels, 40+ Dunlin, 2 Sanderlings, a Great Northern Diver, a Pintail, a Common Buzzard, 3 Common Swifts, a Cuckoo and 2 Spotted Flycatchers.
St. Agnes – 7 Whimbrels and a Cuckoo.
Bryher – A Cuckoo.
Samson – 2 Great Northern Divers and 7 Dunlins.
