St. Mary’s – 4 Common Sandpipers, 2 Greenshanks, a very early Snipe, 6 Sand Martins, 8 Swifts and a European Bee-eater were all at/over Porth Hellick Pool. A Golden Oriole was singing at Rocky Hills, a juvenile Mediterranean Gull was in Porthcressa Bay and a first-summer bird was in the harbour. The undoubted highlight of the day was Scilly’s fifth record of Large Tortoiseshell, the first time this butterfly has been seen on Scilly for many years. It was in the extension of Lower Moors on Rosehill corner and showed very well to all-comers all afternoon.
Tresco – A Common Buzzard.
St. Martin’s – 4 Ravens flew towards Men-a-vaur.
